Maple Lake is located to the west of the Tatun Mountain, which can be entered at 200 meters before the Dasi Bridge on county highway No. 101. Previously, there were six huge Formosan Sweet Gums near the entrance and it is surrounded by the mountains on three sides.
Since the shape of Maple Lake looked like a lake, it was thus named as Maple Lake.
Although Formosan Sweet Gums are not mapletrees, one can find a wide varieties of maple trees, particularly the Green maples, on the adjacent hills.
Later, Green maple trees have been constantly planted, which makes the name of Maple Lake more appropriate.
